Sun Fiber
Coniferous wood fiber for growing media
The fiber deriving from the extrusion of conifer chips is one of the organic components suitable for combining with peat in the production of substrates with a lower carbon footprint. Sun Fiber, thank to its producer, has German RAL quality mark, which guarantees maximum safety and quality and derives from sustainable and certified forest management programs (PEFC).
Three different types of Sun Fiber are available.
The first has the natural color of the coniferous wood from which it derives.
The second is colored with the use of charcoal, to take on an appearance very similar to sphagnum peat (an important aspect in hobby substrates). The third involves a very intense heat treatment during the extrusion phase, which gives enhanced water retention capacity and greater stability (less nitrogen immobilization)
Advantages
-
+
Low carbon footprint
High air capacity
High stability and reduced nitrogen immobilization (< 200 mg/l)
Maximum hygiene
RAL quality mark
Consistent and controlled quality
Sun Fiber is suitable for mixing with peat, because it has complementary hydrological properties. It greatly increases the air filled porosity, but reducing the amount of Easily Available Water. In the ideal proportion of 20-30% by volume, it busts the the substrate, stimulating root growth without reducing water availability. In this proportion, nitrogen immobilization is < 200 mg l-1
